Thousands of Ipohites thronged the annual Hari Raya open house celebration held by former Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadziah.
The crowd estimated at just over 10,000 that started streaming into Husni’s Sungai Rokam home after 10am and gradually grew to a full house by noon.
As in previous years it was a Muhibbah atmosphere where all strata of society from the man in street to politicians and councilors turned up greet the host and partake of the festive Raya cuisine.
Joining Husi to greet his guests were Datuk Aminuddin Hanafiah (Hulu Kinta Assemblyman) and Mohamad Ziad Mohamed Zainal Abidin (Asssemblyman for Manjoi)
Indeed whole familes were seen at their tables enjoying the delicacies with many wondering if this year would be the last year Husni’s open house would be held.
Datuk Seri Husni had in late June resigned not just from his position as Second Finance Minister but also key positions within Umno and Barisan Nasional such as as Umno treasurer and BN treasurer-general amid the announcement of a reshuffled cabinet lineup announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who also stated that Husni decided to retire for personal reasons.
In Perak he resigned from his post as Perak Umno deputy information chief, Perak BN deputy chairman, Tambun Umno chief, as well as Tambun BN chairman. He has been the division leader in Tambun for 23 years.
Husni, a student of St Michaels Institution, Ipoh is also a graduate of University Malaya. He entered government service in 1984 and was appointed Second Finance Minister since April 2009.
